Hughson staff announce farmers market, summer classes and public-works appreciation event

At the Hughson City Council meeting on May 12, staff gave the council a run-down of upcoming parks, recreation and public-works events, including a new farmers market beginning in June, expanded low-cost and free classes and a public-works appreciation event hosted by a local lodge.

Parks and recreation staff said the "luminaries" program opened last week and that classes this season will include arts and crafts, dance, photography, archery and STEM for children and residents. A free or low-cost farmers market is scheduled to start in June, and Park After Dark will begin in June on Bridal. Staff also said Parkwood—s new amenity should be completed shortly.

Public works staff and the city clerk described a public-works appreciation event that will be open to the public; the lodge offering the event will provide food and the city—s public-works staff will display larger equipment for residents and children. Staff emphasized the event is meant to let residents meet public-works employees outside of work duties.

In addition, staff reported that the utilities team completed required certifications. The city clerk circulated a flyer with event details as part of the public-works appreciation staff report. Council members thanked staff for the work on landscaping, irrigation and other maintenance.

Separately, a mentoring program run with the school district will hold end-of-year parties: a celebration for younger mentees this week and for older mentees next week. Staff described the mentoring program as ongoing and noted several council members and staff serve as mentors.

No formal council votes were required for the announcements, which were presented as informational updates and community-event notifications.
