Board approves cancellation of contract for teacher and names interim superintendent

The Norfolk Board of Education on Monday approved two personnel actions: the cancellation of a teacher contract for Megan Lovejoy and the hiring of Bill McAllister as interim superintendent.

Superintendent Dr. Jamie Jo Thompson said the district's attorney recommended moving forward with a cancellation of contract for Megan Lovejoy and that Lovejoy did not request a hearing within the allotted timeframe. "There is only so much that can be said in open session, but this is the same personnel issue that we discussed in executive session previously," Dr. Thompson said. The board voted to approve the cancellation of contract; the motion carried 6—0.

Later in the meeting, after reconvening from executive session and finalizing contract language, the board considered a contract for Bill McAllister to serve as interim superintendent. Board member Tom moved to approve the contract; Patty seconded. Board members expressed support and the motion carried 6—0. One member said, "I'm excited to have the contract signed and begin working with Mr. Bill McAllister."

Because personnel and legal matters were discussed in executive session, Dr. Thompson limited public comment on the specifics. The motions recorded on the public agenda indicate the board approved the personnel actions by recorded vote.
