The Lorain County Board of Commissioners approved appointments to the new Community Reinvestment Housing Council for Elyria Township at the May 15 meeting, filling the three trustee seats the commissioners nominate under state law.
The board appointed Rick Huttman, Carol Gallardo Gallardo and Mike Baker as the three county-appointed trustees. The commissioners said the planning commission will name two additional trustees, and those five will select two more to form the seven-member inaugural council.
The appointment was made under the authority cited on the agenda, "Ohio Revised Code 3735.67(a)(3)," and the motion to place the resolution on the floor was moved and seconded, followed by a recorded voice vote in favor. Commissioners recorded their aye votes and the appointments were approved.
The council will oversee a townshipwide Community Reinvestment Area intended to provide local control over eligible community-development activities. County officials said Elyria Township sought to form the council to respond to local development and housing-assistance needs.
