The Port Washington Board of Public Works approved a revised state municipal agreement with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation to add curb realignments and bump-outs at the intersection of Grand Avenue (State Trunk Highway 32) and Webster Street.
Staff said the revised SMA incorporates additional bump-outs on the north side of Webster Street, improves alignment of handicap ramps with sidewalks and aims to make pedestrian crossings safer at an intersection with reported pedestrian “near misses.” Rob (city staff) said the DOT accepted the board’s prior request to expand the curb work after the DOT revised the design.
Construction under the DOT contract is currently programmed for 2029. Staff said the city’s nonparticipating portion is an estimate and typically covers maintenance and repair of haul roads during construction or cost overruns; if construction proceeds without issues the nonparticipating cost could be minimal.
Board members moved and seconded approval and the motion carried on a voice vote. The SMA will proceed through the city’s finance committee process since construction funding remains to be authorized for the 2029 work.
