Summary
The police department reported it received an analytical study on the local gun range and will conduct on-site testing and arrange a public hearing before bringing recommendations back to the council.
Festus police told the City Council they have received an analytical study on the local gun range and will perform field testing and hold a public hearing to gather input before returning a recommendation to the council.
Councilman Wehner asked for an update on the gun range. The police chief said, “We've just received the analytical study back. I haven't gone all through that gotten through it yet. We are arranging to conduct the test that Jim Tinnen [Councilman Tinnen] requested. We're just waiting for a dry day to go down there and do that. After that is said and done, we'll compile all that together.”
The chief added the department will coordinate with city staff to set a date for a public hearing so the public can review findings before the council considers next steps. No policy change, permit action or regulatory decision was made at the meeting; the council directed staff to complete testing and schedule public outreach prior to formal council consideration.
