The Collier County Board of County Commissioners on May 13 approved awarding Invitation to Bid 25-8327 for intersection improvements at Vanderbilt Beach Road and Logan Boulevard to Quality Enterprises USA Inc. in the amount of $6,050,000, and approved a $400,000 owner’s allowance.
Jay Ahmad, the county’s director of Transportation Engineering and Construction Management, described the project as an upgrade from span-wire signal infrastructure to mast-arm signals and associated roadway work to increase capacity. He said the project will add dual left-turn lanes for westbound Vanderbilt Beach Road and construct turn islands designed to improve traffic flow and resilience during storms. "This project will construct mass arms for all indications at the intersection," Ahmad said.
Ahmad and staff noted the improvements were timed to prepare for additional traffic expected after the Vanderbilt Beach Road extension opens. The project includes signal hardening to reduce outage vulnerability during hurricanes and an updated signal system to better synchronize traffic movements.
Commissioners moved and seconded the contract award; the motion passed unanimously. The board authorized the chair to sign the agreement for project number 60252.
The contract award authorizes construction to proceed subject to the standard contract terms, the approved owner’s allowance and any required pre-construction activities. Transportation staff said they will monitor the new signal behavior after installation and adjust synchronization as needed.
