During discussion of the employee handbook, board members asked staff to clarify the attendance and absence language that addresses job abandonment and the threshold for assuming voluntary resignation after three consecutive unauthorized workdays. Staff explained supervisors and human resources follow-up procedures and said the handbook language would be clarified to emphasize that three consecutive unreported workdays may be treated as job abandonment, while separate patterns of excessive absences are handled through progressive discipline.
Board members also raised the handbook—s language discouraging outside employment for full-time staff. Staff and board members agreed to reword the paragraph to encourage employees to consider the effect of outside work on job performance rather than use the stronger term "discourage." The board agreed the district would require disclosure only when outside employment could create a conflict or affect performance.
On student and family handbooks and the AP testing policy language, board members asked for clearer, parent-facing references to which AP courses are offered each year and to add a sentence encouraging families to consult counselors or academy principals for information about taking AP tests not offered on-site. Staff confirmed course offerings appear in the district's course catalog and said they would add cross-references and clearer enrollment guidance.
Board members also requested a small clarification in the work-permit guidance to state the campus office location where completed permit requests should be returned, and noted the five-business-day processing estimate was accurate but optional language would be adjusted for clarity.
Motions to approve both the employee handbook and the student/family handbooks were made and carried on roll-call votes recorded in the meeting minutes.
