Staff and council said a $27,000 figure appearing in the materials was a carryover from a prior allocation and that the current application and anticipated award amount is $160,643. Staff indicated the funds are expected to arrive in December and would support transit operations, such as fare reduction efforts or free-ride trials after council and staff determine program details.
Council member Holmes asked about limited English proficiency and whether the transit system had challenges serving non-English speakers. Staff said Auburn Transit has bilingual drivers and that the Title VI and LEP plans are intended to ensure the city has processes in place should language barriers arise; staff reported no formal complaints to date and said Auburn Transit and partner agencies had met Title VI obligations.
The council voted to adopt the Title VI program and related plans with a roll-call vote; staff said they would return with implementation details once the funds were received and a decision made on how to use them.
