The LaSalle County nursing home committee voted to authorize a facility credit card with a $1,000 monthly limit to be used primarily for seminar registration, staff said.
A staff member explained the facility currently requires employees to use personal cards to register for educational seminars and then seek reimbursement, which can be a financial burden. “It would be extremely beneficial to us if we had a credit card because 90% of the time, it's gonna be used for your education,” the staff member said.
Committee discussion clarified the card’s intended use: registration fees for seminars and training. Committee members said lodging and travel are typically paid on employee cards and later reimbursed, and that out‑of‑state travel or expenses exceeding $1,000 should be routed to the board for prior approval. Receipts and charges on the credit card will be documented in the facility’s monthly bills.
A motion to approve the credit card was made by a facility staff member; Board member Nancy seconded. The committee voted in favor; meeting remarks indicated five members voted yes. The action was recorded as approved and staff were instructed to follow existing reporting and committee approval processes for larger or out‑of‑state expenditures.
No additional spending-authority limits beyond the $1,000 monthly cap were adopted at the meeting; staff and finance will document charges as part of the regular bills process.
