Planning staff announced at the May 12 meeting that they will present a package of proposed Unified Development Ordinance text amendments at the Planning Commission meeting at 7 p.m. The proposed package contains “a few hundred pages” of changes intended to reduce repetitive variance requests and make the code more user-friendly.
The announcement matters because staff indicated the package contains building-design standard changes, updates to the use table, and provisions related to masonry-wainscot requirements that have frequently generated variance requests. Staff invited applicants and neighbors who attended the zoning-board meeting to attend the Planning Commission session to make their views known.
The planning administrator said the text amendments are intended to address “high-frequency” variance cases and regretted that the masonry-wainscot provision has repeatedly required variances. The Planning Commission meeting was scheduled for 7 p.m. the same evening and would include discussion of the proposed amendments. The planning office also said materials and a summary would be made available and that the meeting will be posted to YouTube.
