Board approves grant-funded Family and Community Engagement coordinator job description

The Garfield Heights City School District board approved on May 12 a job description for a Family and Community Engagement (FACE) coordinator position, which will replace a prior position and be funded by the Title IV grant.
Board members and staff clarified that the position is not an addition to district staffing but a replacement. "It's not coming out of the general fund. It's coming out of our Title IV grant," Miss Jones, a district staff member, said during the discussion. The job was described as connecting families to resources, assisting with program alignment to family needs, and supporting outreach.
The role will reside in the district's Department of Educational Advancement, which staff described as a department that "works to knock down any barriers that our students may have or any barriers that our staff members may have," handling family resources, Title IX issues, and other supports. Board members asked that knowledge of student-management systems and basic technology skills be added to the position's knowledge, skills and abilities; staff agreed to add technological skills language.
The motion to approve the job description, with the addition of technology skills under the knowledge section, was moved by Miss Cox and seconded by Miss Thomas. Roll call votes on the motion were recorded as yes from Miss Cox, Miss Thomas, Miss Morrison and Doctor King; the motion carried. The staff reiterated the position is grant-funded and replaces a previously funded role.
