Board approves consolidated funding application amid federal budget uncertainty

Coffee County school leaders presented and the board approved the district’s consolidated funding application for federal programs for planning purposes, even as officials noted continued uncertainty in federal allocations.
Krista Cole (Finance/Grants staff) explained that because the U.S. Department of Education had not finalized allocations, the state used its current numbers to provide districts with an amount to plan against. The state uploaded allocations for the 2024–25 level and told districts to plan from that baseline for 2025–26; the board approved the application so the district can proceed with program planning.
Staff flagged that the president’s proposed budget at the federal level had suggested flat funding for Title I and IDEA in its initial “skinny” proposal, but other federal program lines (Title II-A, Title IV) were uncertain. Trustees were reminded that the district had previously used ESSER to temporarily fund coaches and professional development; staff are working to plan which personnel and programs should be funded from which federal line if allocations change.
The board approved the consolidated funding application by unanimous vote and directed staff to monitor state and federal guidance and adjust budgets if allocations change.
