The Whitestown Planning Commission approved a development plan for a five‑story, 36‑room dual‑brand TownePlace Suites/SpringHill Suites hotel on a 3.23‑acre lot created by a recently approved plat.
Why it matters: The project adds a mid‑rise hotel to the Perry‑White area near Juniors Way and will require building permits and final engineering after development‑plan approval. The Board of Zoning Appeals previously granted a variance for the five‑story height.
Rusty Spires, representing Spires Engineers and Jai Preet Investments, described the site and building program and said the project had “been working with your staff. They've been very helpful” and that staff’s comments were minor. Spires said the dual‑brand property will share some back‑of‑house elements and amenities while maintaining separate room types and branding. He said, “This will share the pool, I think at the desk and the kitchens and the dining room, but then there's 2 distinct sides where you have 2 different types of of rooms.”
Planning staff reviewed the project, noted that the amended primary plat and concept plan had been approved earlier, and that the Board of Zoning Appeals had approved the requested height variance. Staff recommended approval of the development plan.
No members of the public signed up to speak on the item. After a brief discussion the commission voted to approve the development plan based on the staff report, staff recommendations and the submitted findings of fact.
Ending: The petitioner said it will proceed with final engineering and permitting. The commission’s approval follows the BZA height variance and primary‑plat approvals and clears the way for building permits and site work to proceed.
