District IT update: fiber work, data-center move and Rock Building next steps outlined

District technology staff updated the Rockcastle County Board of Education on steps to move the data center and bring high-speed Internet to a new district building, and staff provided a status update on the Rock Building planning and approvals.
IT staff reported they have applied for what was described in the meeting as "3 rate funding" and are awaiting notification. Because the academy building will receive a new roof, district staff said they will prioritize getting Internet service to the building as soon as schools are out rather than waiting for a full data-center relocation. The first leg of fiber will be run from an existing building (identified in the presentation as the Exela Building) to the new building; staff said they have pull-route approvals from Jackson Energy for some pole infrastructure, but are waiting on the vendor (identified as ENA/Silicon) to provide their route information so the vendor can place fiber.
District staff said on-site work to prepare for the move has started and that the cutover to the new systems is still targeted for June, pending receipt of the outstanding routing information. The district also discussed the Rock Building: staff said the local planning/approval meeting is scheduled this month, that they will submit the DFP (design/funding package) to the state for approval and that construction could begin as early as this fall if approvals and design work proceed on schedule.
Board members raised questions about rates and pole access; staff clarified which utility poles will be used and said they expect additional rate notices from the utility.
