Sunnyside council authorizes sale of 77‑acre Munson property; proceeds will first satisfy loan

The Sunnyside City Council authorized the city manager on May 12 to proceed with a purchase and sale agreement for the city‑owned Munson property, roughly 77 acres at 2920 Outlook Road.

City staff presented a counteroffer to F and M Investments LLC that staff said would pay off the outstanding debt on the property and leave the city with remaining acreage to use as the council directs. A staff presenter told the council the city’s remaining debt would be paid first and that any residual funds would be allocated back to the departments that originally funded the acquisition, on a percentage basis.

Councilors asked staff to identify precisely which funds and departments contributed to the original purchase and to provide an allocation schedule. Staff reported they had not located an allocation table or amortization schedule in the network files and that older paper archives might need to be searched. Councilors and staff confirmed the priority is satisfying the debt tied to bonds or loans on the property before discretionary redistribution.

Council voted to approve the resolution authorizing the sale (motion by Deputy Mayor; second by Councilor Hart). The motion passed unanimously.

A councilor who had previously reported on the original purchase noted the property purchase had been financed in part by bonds and that payback of bond proceeds would be a priority when sale funds are received. Staff said they will return to council with documentation showing how sale proceeds will be routed through the city’s chart of accounts once the records search is complete.
