The Rockcastle County Board of Education received a construction update on the district’s new middle school during its regular meeting, with staff reporting that major structural work is in place and finishing trades are underway.
Board members were shown recent photos of the site and told that most of the bleachers are installed except for the top two front sections near the concession stand, sidewalks around the track have been poured, and interior mechanical areas are being outfitted. District staff said plumbing work for the kitchen is in place and that water heaters and electrical equipment have arrived and are being installed in the mechanical room that will serve the first phase of the building.
District officials said crews focused early work on the most complex sections — including a two-story classroom area built above the bus loop — so that the remainder of the project would proceed faster once the hard parts are completed. The presenter said mud and site conditions have been a factor but that the schedule remains intact and that crews will continue work over the summer, including installing new gym bleachers and completing the mechanical room.
Board members asked whether the project remains on schedule; staff replied that it is. Officials invited board members and the public to tour the site and said they expect more visible progress month to month.
The update dovetailed with other facilities items the board discussed, including next steps on the Rock Building and roof work at the academy. The district will provide further updates at upcoming meetings.
