Board upgrades 815 Dunlap Street to 'contributing' in Westside Guadalupe Historic District

The Santa Fe Historic Districts Review Board voted May 13 to adopt staff findings upgrading the main residence at 815 Dunlap Street to contributing status in the Westside Guadalupe Historic District while designating an on‑lot garage and storage building as noncontributing.
Staff reported the adobe single‑story house dates to the 1930s with a 1940s addition and distinctive undulating parapets characteristic of the neighborhood; the smaller rear garage and a storage accessory building were found to have been altered substantially and not to retain contributing features. The recommendation upgraded the house while identifying the south and east facades of the original residence as primary facades and excluding a nonhistoric greenhouse addition.
Motion and vote: Vice Chair Bienvenu moved to adopt staff’s recommended findings; Member Degnan seconded. A roll call vote approved the staff recommendation with all voting members present voting yes.
Outcome and next steps: The designation will be recorded and will guide future design reviews for the property. The board’s motion noted an ideal outcome would be removal of the greenhouse and restoration of the original window opening, but the decision itself does not require removal; any future changes will be reviewed under the contributing status.
