Board rescinds planned land donation for joint-use fire facility, township to receive notice

"The land was being donated to the school district and Plain Township. You accepted the land donation. Now we need to give the land back because we're no longer doing this project," Superintendent Sawyer said. He said the rescission formalizes returning the property to the original owner and that the deed was never transferred.
Sawyer said the township has approved payment for the design work completed while the two entities were collaborating: about $98,000 was the round number cited to cover the township's portion of design expenses. Board members asked whether the design work would still be useful for either party; Sawyer said the work remained useful for both sides, but the billings and responsibilities would now be separate.
The board approved the superintendent's item that rescinded the land donation as part of the superintendent's agenda items; the motion carried on a roll-call vote. Superintendent Sawyer said he would notify the township by email that the board had taken the formal action.
