Fairhope council adds agenda item to authorize mayor’s support letters for BEAD subawards

The Fairhope City Council unanimously approved adding an agenda item authorizing Mayor Sherry Sullivan to write letters of support for subaward grant applications by MediaCom, Comcast and C Spire for the Alabama BEAD (Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment) program.
At the start of the meeting the mayor read the proposed resolution and the council moved to add it as item 23. Later in the meeting the council voted to authorize the mayor to submit letters of support to the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) for the three broadband providers’ subaward applications.
Councilman Robinson had requested the addition during the work session and the council approved placing the item on the consent agenda. There was no public comment on the item during the agenda items portion of the meeting, and council members approved the authorization by voice vote.
The authorization enables the mayor to provide municipal support letters in connection with BEAD subaward applications; the council did not otherwise commit funds or specify conditions of support in the motion on the record.
