Maple Heights Boys League asks for renewed access to middle-school field; city council member voices support

Leaders of the Maple Heights Boys League asked the board on May 12 to restore access to the middle-school field for practices and games, saying the league serves about 100 youth and is mostly composed of Maple Heights residents.
David Moss, who runs the league with his brother Devin Moss, told the board the nonprofit has roughly 100 players and charges $95 for out-of-community participants and $85 for Maple Heights residents. "We charge ... $95, but we give the kids in the community, a discount of $85," he said. He said the league is incorporated as a nonprofit with a 501(c) and operates on an approximate budget of $20,000–$25,000.
Moss said the league was using district fields in 2022–23 but access was revoked around March of this year. He said roughly 80% of participants are Maple Heights children and described the league's role in providing summer activity and parental supports such as a Mother's Day event at the library.
Councilwoman Stafford Marbury, who identified herself as the District 6 council representative, spoke in support of the league. "Several council people do support the boys league," she said, and said she has personally sponsored children so they could participate.
Superintendent Miss Delaflora told the speakers the administration would follow up and she would be in contact after the meeting. The board did not take immediate action on field access during the session.
