Maple Heights wins CTAC grant; district to add two coordinators, steps up driver recruitment

The Maple Heights Board of Education on May 12 heard that the district received a CTAC grant that will fund two coordinators for the 2025–26 school year.
Superintendent Miss Delaflora told the board during the Committee of the Whole meeting that "Maple Heights is the recipient of the CTAC grant for next year...we were awarded a hundred and $79,763.91, and that will permit us to have 2 CTAD coordinators for next year." She said the CTAC program works with high school students to boost attendance and engagement and typically serves 25 to 30 students per coordinator.
The superintendent said the grant-funded coordinators will support activities such as college visits and out-of-school incentives designed to keep students engaged. "There are lots of things that the grant affords us to do such as taking the kids on college visits, providing incentives for them, doing things with them outside of the school day, again, to increase engagement," she said.
Delaflora also reported the district will try new recruitment strategies for school bus drivers, citing work by Gia McCants on recruitment videos and the use of AI tools to promote openings on social media and the district website. "We are still in need of bus drivers," she said.
The superintendent closed by reminding the board that graduation is set for May 20 at the Wolstein Center at Cleveland State University at 7 p.m.
The board took no direct action on the CTAC award during the meeting; the report was informational.
