Indiana DNR approves Speedway parks master plan; town to apply for LWCF grant for Meadowood Park

The Town of Speedway’s parks director told the council on May 12 that the Indiana Department of Natural Resources has approved the town’s five‑year parks master plan, clearing the way for state and federal grant applications.
Tammy Smith reported, "The Indiana Department of Natural Resources, we did receive the letter from them, the approval letter of our master plan. So we are have a current, 5 year master plan in place, and we are hoping to apply for the land water conservation fund grant for Meadowood Park. We're hoping to get it applied for this year. The deadline is August 1." Smith said playgrounds and playground surfaces are in poor condition and that staff will meet with the town manager and the clerk‑treasurer to review options and funding strategies.
The parks department also noted agreements for race‑day parking and a three‑year arrangement with Dallara to use a building behind their lot during events. Smith said concerts and other plaza entertainment are scheduled for the summer, and the department will use fundraising events to help pay for plaza programming. The council recognized the staff and parks board for completing the master plan, and Smith said actual construction timing will depend on grant funding and other resources.
