The Town of Speedway Town Council voted 5–0 on May 12 to approve an agreement for play‑by‑play announcing services for Speedway High School football games.
Town Manager Grant Kleinheinz told council members, "This is an agreement for play by play announcing for football games this fall with Speedway High School in the brand new stadium. John Natal is referenced as the talent on the agreement, you'll notice. So we have an agreement with him to pay $75 per event. There are 6 events that's not to exceed $450 for him to provide that service." He said the cable advisory commission hopes the announcer will sell advertising and sponsorships that could offset costs as the cable franchise fee revenue has declined.
Councilor Sarah Gardner moved approval of the agreement and Councilor Vince Noblett seconded. Multiple council members complimented the cable advisory commission for seeking new revenue options and noted the service could expand to other sports if successful. The contract passed unanimously.
