The Parks and Recreation Committee on May 5 received the Greenways Program and Park Impact Fee Fund annual report presented by Parks and Recreation Director Nicole Oliver and Parks Development Manager Lane Potter.
The report covered the first year of a 10-year Greenways levy and cited tax revenue of about $9,280,000. The council resolution accompanying the levy includes spending-percentage guidelines: 35% for land acquisition (including trail connections), 20% for development of purchased properties, 20% for ongoing maintenance and capital replacement, 15% for emissions reductions and climate resiliency at park properties, and 10% for flex funds.
The report said approximately $3,700,000 in Greenways funds were used to acquire four properties totaling about 27 acres for open space and parkland, including purchases along Telegraph Road and work at Arroyo Park and Connolly Creek nature area. About $1,200,000 supported projects such as Boulevard Park shoreline enhancement, energy-efficiency upgrades, stewardship programs and other capital work. Planned priorities include Hundred Acre Wood Phase 1 improvements, the Sunset Pond Loop Trail and continued shoreline and community garden projects. The committee received the information for discussion; no action was taken at this meeting.
