Bellingham mayor: North Haven tiny-home village to open this month; surplus Swift Haven units to be sold

In her May 5 mayor’s report, the mayor told the Bellingham City Council that HomesNow is building a new tiny-home village called North Haven in the Birchwood neighborhood and plans to open it by the end of May. The North Haven site will be the new location for the Swift Haven and Unity Villages, two tiny-home villages currently on city property that must be relocated.
The mayor said the city has invested nearly $2,000,000 to acquire and improve the property along Northwest Avenue and that city staff are working with HomesNow on the relocation. Council members were directed to the Community and Economic Development Committee’s earlier comprehensive update and to the committee recording for details.
Separately, during the consent agenda the council approved the sale of surplus Swift Haven tiny homes to the United Way of Skagit County; Council member Hannah Stone highlighted that item before the consent vote. The consent agenda motion passed unanimously, 7-0.
