The Toms River Township Council adopted a final‑reading ordinance that reduces speed limits and reconfigures speed zones on Garfield Avenue, between Riverside Drive and Route 37 and between Route 37 and Cottonwood Drive.

Council Vice President Coleman, Councilwoman O’Toole, Council President Lamb, Councilman Byrne, Councilman Nieveson and Councilman Quinlisk voted yes; Councilman Sikosi abstained. The tally was six votes in favor, zero against, one abstention, which carried the ordinance as a final reading.
Council President Lamb thanked the police traffic unit for assistance, saying, “I want to thank Chief Sundak and Officer Schwartz of our traffic safety unit. We’ve been taking some major steps at improving vehicular and pedestrian safety in our roads, especially in Ward 1.” The ordinance was described by staff as intended to “promote enhanced vehicular and pedestrian safety.”
The ordinance amends the township code sections governing vehicles and traffic, restructuring zones and establishing new speed limits on Garfield Avenue. No amendments were adopted during the final reading; the council approved the measure on the consent of members present.
