BZA approves special use transfer for existing 45-dog kennel

The Marshall County Board of Zoning Appeals voted May 13 to approve a special use that will permit Jacob Hostetler to purchase and continue operating a 45-dog kennel at an existing facility currently operating under a special-use permit.
Planning staff reported the property already contains an operating kennel permitted under the current owner, and the proposed continuation under new ownership meets development standards and county comprehensive-plan guidance for low-impact economic uses. The Technical Review Committee recommended approval and staff recommended the same.
Buyer Jacob Hostetler and seller David Slabaugh both attended the hearing; Slabaugh confirmed he is selling the property and the buyer intends to continue the existing kennel operation. Staff noted previous inspections and that the facility appeared well maintained during their site visit.
Trent moved to approve the special-use transfer; Don seconded and the board approved the transfer by voice vote.
