Egg Harbor Township Committee on Monday approved a slate of routine measures, passed a resolution opposing proposed utility rate increases, approved payroll and bills, and voted to meet in a closed executive session to discuss personnel and pending legal matters.
The committee approved Resolutions Nos. 142 through 154 on a roll call vote. The record shows committee members Annalise, Hockton, Oswald, Raisenberg and Freeman voting yes on the consent calendar; Resolution No. 153 was noted as amended before the vote.
Separately the committee took Resolution No. 155, which the agenda described as opposing “any proposed utility rate increases by Atlantic City Electric and/or any other utility providers that service the residents of Egg Harbor Township.” The motion to adopt passed on roll call. Van Perma, a township committee member, addressed the rise in bills at the dais and said many households in the township received “electric bills this year that were through the roof,” adding that residents and local officials were seeking answers from the Board of Public Utilities and elected officials.
The committee also approved Resolution No. 156 (authorization for payment of all bills) and approved payroll for the month of February in the amount of $1,619,599.24. Roll-call confirmations for these routine approvals were recorded as affirmative.
Toward the end of the public portion, the committee voted to close the public meeting and convene in closed executive session under Resolution No. 157 to discuss personnel matters, potential ethics violations by township board members, an update in the Garden State Outdoor LLC lawsuit and fire prevention/inspection safety violations. The resolution noted anticipated disclosure periods for those matters and stated that the minutes will be made public once confidentiality is no longer required. The meeting record shows an affirmation vote to enter closed session and a statement from the township administrator that no action was expected to be taken after the closed session.
