Norma Lombardi, who identified herself as a longtime resident of West Atlantic City within Egg Harbor Township, said she had received a roughly 25% flood-insurance discount in prior years after the township completed FEMA-related work following Superstorm Sandy, including shore-protection work and dune/stair improvements. Lombardi said she discovered the discount was absent from this year’s bill and estimated the missing credit cost her “about $1,300.” She said she had written to township officials and asked for an explanation and retroactive correction if possible.
Township Administrator responded that staff became aware and is checking the CRS status and related paperwork; the administrator did not provide a timeline but said the matter was “being checked into” and that the township will follow up.
Why it matters: The FEMA CRS discount reduces annual flood-insurance premiums for residents in participating communities; losing the discount can raise costs materially for households in flood-prone areas. Lombardi asked for the township to investigate why the discount was not applied this year and to seek restoration or retroactive relief if appropriate.
