Jackson County sets May 27 public hearing on Livableby Road Level B designation

The Jackson County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to set a public hearing on May 27 at 9 a.m. to consider designating Livableby Road as a Level B roadway.

County Engineer Jaden Shekel told the board the county’s office reviewed records from a 1982 meeting and found that about "90% of the rows that we are proposing have already actually been approved as level b," leaving only three roads in dispute from last week’s public meeting. Shekel proposed scheduling the new hearing to ensure the board had adequate time to discuss remaining questions.

"One thing on our agenda item today is to set date for another public hearing for the level b," Shekel said during the board’s work session. After brief discussion about timing and the Memorial Day calendar, Supervisor Nen Puego moved to set the hearing and Supervisor Mike Steines seconded the motion. Chairman Don Swenker called the question: "Any other discussion? All those in favor, say aye" and then said, "Motion carries." The board did not record any dissent on the motion.

The hearing will revisit the board’s earlier Level B roadway discussion and allow members of the public to comment on Livableby Road’s proposed designation. Shekel said most of the county’s proposed Level B designations are supported by earlier minutes and resolutions, and the hearing will focus on the few segments that drew comment at the prior meeting.

The board’s decision to set the date was procedural; no final roadway designations were adopted at Tuesday’s session. The board will consider public testimony and any staff recommendations at the May 27 hearing.
