Board member asks staff to review proposal for fetal-development video in middle/high school human development classes

Member Farrant said, "I would like to, propose, something to add to an agenda item for the future board meeting, to add a directive where we would provide our sixth through twelfth grade students, during their human development classes, where they would be presented a video on human development, where it would, just show the development of a a baby, in the womb." (quote as spoken in the meeting transcript).
Superintendent Dr. Maria Vasquez characterized the request as a curriculum matter and said staff would "review the standards, also see if that's something that's being, done in any other districts, and then we'll come back to the board with a response." No policy vote was taken; the request was referred to district staff for review and a future report to the board.
The discussion did not adopt curriculum changes; it initiated a staff review of academic standards and practices in other districts.
