Five of Six Fan Motors Fail at Lee County New Courthouse; Temperatures Near 80°F in Some Rooms

Eric, a Lee County facilities staff member, told the Facilities & Maintenance Committee that five of six fan motors on recently installed HVAC units at the New Courthouse failed the same day, affecting fourth- and third-floor systems and some second-floor areas.
The failure “controls Fourth Floor, Third Floor, and some of Second Floor areas,” Eric said. He said some rooms could reach “pretty close to 80 degrees” while staff work to troubleshoot, order parts and deploy temporary cooling. Eric said the units are brand new and should be covered by warranty.
Committee members asked about a timeline for repairs. Eric said the problem “just happened today” and that he expected more information later the same day or the following day. He also said staff are preparing temporary solutions, including bringing in temporary air conditioning if needed, and that employees may bring personal fans in the meantime.
The committee did not vote on any measure related to the HVAC failure during the meeting. There was no formal direction recorded beyond staff troubleshooting, ordering parts and arranging temporary cooling.
For courthouse users, the facilities staff said they will monitor affected spaces and implement temporary measures until warranty repairs are completed. No firm return-to-normal date was provided at the meeting.
