Kenilworth police report monthly activity, training and recruitment

The Borough Council heard the Kenilworth Police Department's monthly report for January. The report, presented by the council liaison for public safety, detailed calls for service, 9-1-1 call volume, training hours, traffic enforcement and new recruits entering academy training.
According to the report, the department responded to calls for service and logged 9-1-1 activity for the month; units recorded 237 hours of overtime (150 hours scheduled patrol overtime and 48 hours dispatch overtime). The report stated the department issued 171 traffic summonses and made five arrests for the month. The council liaison said two department recruits began police training at the John H. Stanwood Police Academy on Jan. 3, 2025, and two new dispatchers began training on Jan. 20, 2025. The liaison also said county police provided 342 hours of training for the month, covering firearm, first-responder and specialized training.
Councilman Dennis Traver relayed a plea from the chief: drive cautiously in icy conditions and look out for elderly neighbors shoveling snow. "If you see an elderly person out there showing the snow, go out there and say, listen, let me give you a hand," he said. The council thanked the department and encouraged community support for police services.
