LAKE FOREST PARK, Wash. — The Lake Forest Park City Council on Monday unanimously authorized the mayor to direct city administration to begin the formal process to fill the council seat left vacant by the death of Deputy Mayor Bodie.
The council voted to approve a motion instructing the administration to advertise the opening and accept applications; the mayor declared, “Ayes have it. It passes unanimously,” after the motion was moved and seconded.
City Attorney Kim Pratt told the council state law gives the city 90 days to fill a council vacancy. “So as a mayor council form of government, the RCWs give the city council the authority, to fill a council vacancy. And you have 90 days to do that,” Pratt said. She said if the council does not appoint someone within 90 days, King County would appoint, and if King County does not act, the governor’s office could become involved.
