Tianna Dunbar of the Mason County Economic Development Council read a proclamation at the May 13 meeting recognizing Economic Development Week, May 11–17, 2025, and outlined the EDC's recent work supporting local businesses and workforce development.
Dunbar said the EDC “has led efforts to recruit new investment, support entrepreneurs, retain existing businesses in multiple industry sectors” and cited collaboration with local schools and colleges, including the Shelton School District, Olympic College and The Evergreen State College, to support job training and entrepreneurship. She told commissioners the EDC supported “more than 28 local businesses” in February 2024 through technical assistance, funding guidance and training and encouraged residents to contact the EDC about small-business scholarships that are available through June.
The proclamation, read into the record, directs recognition of the week and highlights the role of economic developers in strengthening communities.
