Commissioners approve safety project, temporary closures and consultant work for Bear Creek realignment

Mason County commissioners on May 13 approved multiple Public Works actions: a resolution to advance the CRP 2066 Coqualum Road Safety Enhancement Project, authorization for the county engineer to set bid dates and award the contract, temporary closures for culvert and bridge replacements on Beeville Loop Road and Bear Creek/D'Owato Road, and a consulting agreement with Fortera not to exceed $20,000 to begin amending a conservation easement tied to the Bear Creek/D'Owato Road realignment (CRP 2050).
During the action‑agenda reading, staff described the closures: “Approval of temporary road closure on Beeville Loop Road, milepost 1.41 to 1.69 and 4.98 and Bear CreekD owada Road milepost 6.18 through 7.17 0.43 and 7.94 for culvert and bridge replacement projects occurring between May 1 and 10/30/2025. Each closure will last for up to 14 calendar days and will be published in the Shelton Mason County Journal in accordance with public notice requirements,” a staff member read to the commission.
The commission also read and approved a resolution for CRP 2066 (Coqualum Road Safety Enhancement Project) and authorized the county engineer and chair to sign pertinent documents. The board approved executing a consulting agreement with Fortera not to exceed $20,000 to begin amending the conservation easement for CRP 2050 (Bear Creek/D'Owato Road realignment) and directed staff to proceed with procurement and scheduling tasks related to the projects.
Commissioners did not remove these items for separate discussion and approved the full action agenda by vote. The items include standard public‑notice steps and procurement actions; staff said closures and bid schedules will be published and posted as required.
