Mason County commissioners approve $450,000 sale of 6.1-acre public-works parcel

The Mason County Board of Commissioners on May 13 approved the sale of a 6.1-acre county-owned property at 5 Public Works Drive in Shelton to David C. Bailey and/or assigns for $450,000.
County Administrator Mark Neri told the commissioners the county acquired the parcel in a 2005 exchange and had declared it surplus in Resolution 32-19. “We acquired it back in 02/2005 as a property exchange between our Public Works Department and the Mankey Timber Company,” Neri said. He added the county’s appraisal was “right around $400,000,” and the $450,000 offer received was “above our appraised value.”
The motion to approve the sale was moved and seconded during the meeting; the commissioners voted in favor and the motion passed. Neri said the proceeds from the sale will be deposited into the Mason County Road Fund.
Commissioners and staff said the county followed a standard process of appraisal and market offering. One commissioner noted the county had done “extensive research on these properties” and sought an arm’s‑length transaction to achieve “the highest and best use.” There was no public testimony during the hearing.
The sale completes the transaction approved at the public hearing and authorizes staff to finalize the sale documents and transfer proceeds to the county road fund.
