Board approves policy updates and amends student-physical-exam language to mirror state RSA

The Brentwood School Board reviewed a group of proposed policy updates and approved them in a combined motion, after committee review and counsel input. The package included a mix of new and revised policies and the board recorded unanimous approval.
Board members raised questions about several policies, including student-discipline appeal language and parent notification in student-welfare contexts. Counsel advised that some board-level mention of disciplinary appeals is appropriate because appeals can reach the board.
On JLCA (student physical examinations) the board moved to amend the policy’s first sentence to match RSA 232. A motion was made and seconded to replace JLCA’s first sentence with language reading in substance that "there shall be a complete physical examination by a licensed physician, physician assistant, or advanced practice registered nurse of each child prior to or upon first entry into the public school system and thereafter as often as deemed necessary by the local school authority" to mirror the statute. The motion passed unanimously.
The board also voted to withdraw several older policies listed in the packet. The school attorney worked with staff to prepare language and to ensure the updated policies reflect current statute and administrative practice.
