"Why not Ohio?" Representative Ty Matthews asked on the floor, urging colleagues to signal that Ohio is "open for projects like NASA to move here." Co-sponsor Representative Santucci said Ohio’s aviation and aerospace heritage — from the Wright brothers to John Glenn and Neil Armstrong — and workforce strengths made the state a fitting host.
Santucci told colleagues that JobsOhio data show more than 35,000 aerospace industry professionals in the state and more than 70 higher-education institutions offering aerospace-related programs. He also cited local research assets including the NASA Glenn Research Center and the Neil Armstrong Test Facility as infrastructure supporting an HQ move.
The clerk recorded 88 affirmative votes and 5 negative votes, and the resolution was adopted. The resolution is nonbinding and urges the president, the vice president, and the NASA administrator designate to consider Cleveland as the site for NASA headquarters.
