Merced County approves $2.89 million Clean California grant for O'Banion Park, advances multiple consent items

The Merced County Board of Supervisors approved a Clean California local grant award of $2,890,000 to support work at O'Banion Park and associated projects in Dos Palos, and moved forward with a series of routine consent items across county departments.
Supervisor Silvera highlighted a ribbon-cutting planned for the Jerry O'Banion Library and the ongoing remodel of Dale Hill Hall, noting the county is continuing grant work on the broader park project. “This is a $2,890,000 grant for the O'Banion Park and Dos Palos,” Silvera said in presenting the item.
The board approved the grant authorization so the Public Works Department can solicit bids and proceed with project work. The motion on the item was made by Supervisor Silvera and seconded by Supervisor Pereira; the chair called for a voice vote and recorded the motion as passing.
After the park item the board opened and closed public comment and then took action on multiple departmental consent calendars: Behavioral Health and Recovery Services items, Human Services Agency items, Probation items, Sheriff items, Community and Economic Development items, retirement item, administrative services item (with a clerical correction noted), county executive office items and board appointments. The transcript records that each set of consent items was moved, seconded and recorded as passing.
Supervisor McDaniels used part of the board report period to note a discretionary fund allocation in item 39 to help residents haul illegally dumped trash in his district, and to thank staff and volunteers involved with the county fair. Another board member described a special-project allocation of $19,470 for the Las Manas Veterans Hall for a ceiling and parking-lot restriping.
The board also noted one clerical correction on an administrative-services agenda item: the agenda referenced section 10.2 of administrative policy 224 but should have stated section 11.2; staff recorded the correction on the item before the vote.
Most items on the meeting’s consent calendar were routine departmental authorizations and appointments; where publicly noted, staff and supervisors said they would proceed with the projects and report back as required.
