Runway seal coat set for next week; tower rehab and hangar move‑in progress at Springdale Airport

Collier said the contract calls for a 30‑day curing period after the seal coat before the final reflective markings with glass beads are applied: “By the end of the week, we should have the full runway remarked and the full seal coat installed. After that point, we're gonna wait 30 days for that seal coat to cure out, and then we'll come back and put the final, final layer of markings on.”
Commissioners asked about timing for striping and reopening; Collier said the minimum markings to reopen will be in place during the seal‑coat work, with the full final markings installed after the curing period.
On the air traffic control tower rehabilitation, Collier said staff and city IT have begun pulling cabling and are awaiting delivery of parts and equipment. He said the plan is to renovate half the tower at a time so at least one operator position remains functional during construction.
Power hangar reconstruction has reached project closeout, Collier said. The city has received a certificate of occupancy and expects the tenant to begin operations in May; staff will proceed with grant closeouts and reimbursement requests for two state grants and one FAA grant associated with the project.
Airport operations staff reported on personnel and tenant items. James (surname not specified), airport operations staff, said a longtime employee’s last day is tomorrow and that the department is interviewing candidates. He also said staff are arranging a camera on Palgate and following up with tenants who are slow to pay.
During old business, commissioners received an update on a separate “guard” item related to hangar conversions and funding. City representatives said the issue has advanced to state leadership and that they expect additional information by the commission’s May meeting; no final state decision has been reported.
