Capital improvement updates: kitchen hoods, HVAC tests and art-classroom renovations slated for summer work

The Wappingers Central School District capital improvement committee reported progress on projects approved in the 2023 referendum and said remaining work should be completed this summer.
Trustee Sloshauer, chair of the capital improvement committee, said the projects stem from the district’s 2023 referendum and were delayed by the State Education Department (SED). “These particular projects do not have anything to do with the upcoming referendum that’s on the ballot for May 20,” he said, noting they were taxpayer-approved previously and postponed because of SED delays.
Items listed for summer completion include replacement of kitchen hoods at James Evans, Kinry Road, Oak Grove and Sheaf Road schools and at Wappingers Junior High; testing of a new HVAC system at Fishkill Plains in advance of summer school; renovations to the main bus garage; art and ceramic classroom renovations at both high schools; auditorium floor repairs; electrical upgrades at Fishkill Elementary; unit-ventilator replacements in the gym and cafetorium at Chief Road; and outside-air units for interior rooms at Vassar Road.
Sloshauer reported the main bus garage renovations remain on schedule though “we did need some additional masonry work.” He said the Phase 1/Phase 2 projects are part of the 2023 referendum and were delayed from last summer.
The committee said some minor items are expected to be finished over the summer and that the listed work is not related to the new referendum on the May 20 ballot but to projects already approved by voters.
