Nantucket Cultural Council awaits town signatures to complete grant payments; plans recipient celebration pending MCC availability

The Nantucket Cultural Council reported progress on its current grant cycle and discussed plans for a recipient celebration, but staff said final payments are paused pending town signatures and at least two outstanding recipient responses.
“We are down to 2,” Shanta Bliss Murphy, supporting staff to the Nantucket Cultural Council, said when asked about outstanding grant recipient responses. Murphy said one recipient told staff she would submit required documents by the following day; another recipient had not acknowledged receipt of paperwork.
Murphy said the grant cycle runs on a different schedule than the council’s fiscal year. “Because this grant is on a different cycle than our fiscal year, they technically have until we do our annual report, which is in August,” Murphy said, describing the response window for recipients.
On administrative status, Murphy said she had received the other required documents and had forwarded them to town finance and was “just waiting for the town signatures on those, and then I can return them to them and get checks out.”
Council members also discussed planning a grant-recipient reception. Murphy said she had contacted Michael Bobbit from the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC) and that Bobbit would like to attend; she was waiting to confirm dates based on his travel and speaking schedule. The council noted that the Nantucket Performing Arts Center (the former White Heron Theatre) has obtained a license, which would allow the council to use that space for a reception.
Members agreed to keep a June meeting on the calendar (June 9 at 4 p.m.) and to confirm whether to hold it about a week beforehand, depending on whether agenda items or updates warranted convening. No formal vote was taken on the reception date or on grant disbursements; council staff will return to members when town signatures are secured and when recipient confirmations are complete.
The council closed public comment after noting no members of the public were present and moved to other business.
