City Manager Blanton used the manager's report to announce schedule changes and community events, including a rescheduled groundbreaking at River Street Park, an upcoming YMCA pool ribbon cutting, recognition of a local musician and timing for the next budget work session.
"It is a very exciting time as always here in Mount Holly," City Manager Blanton said as he reviewed items for council and the public. Blanton said a River Street Park groundbreaking originally planned for the week had been pushed back one week because of weather; the new date is Wednesday, May 21 at 9 a.m. He encouraged council and the public to attend.
Blanton also announced a YMCA pool ribbon cutting scheduled for May 21 at 5:15 p.m., open to the public, and said Mount Holly native David Childers had been announced for induction into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame with an induction in October. He thanked the police, fire, streets and solid waste departments, and the special events team for a successful Springfest 2025 and the Mount Holly Nights kickoff.
Blanton reminded council that city offices will be closed for Memorial Day on May 26 and that the council's work session to review the FY26 budget had been moved up by one week to the coming Monday evening at 6:30 p.m. He said the draft budget had been submitted to council for review and thanked finance staff and department heads for their work.
Blanton also referenced the city's recent strategic vision videos, reporting they received 626,146 views across social media, and said they will be posted to the city website. He offered to answer questions from council at the close of his report.
