Board awards Sharon Elementary ramp replacement bid to Danko Construction for north ramp

The Warrick County School Corporation Board of Trustees voted May 13 to award the bid to replace the north ramp at Sharon Elementary School to Danko Construction Inc., the administration said, citing the company as the lowest responsive, responsible bidder.
Assistant Superintendent Todd Armstrong told the board the school’s north and south exterior ramps — long concrete ramps that run to the second floor — have been deteriorating for several years, with crumbling brick and safety concerns; the board approved replacing the north ramp this year at a price the administration described in discussion as approximately $360,000.
“Their condition is deteriorating. It has been for a couple years,” Armstrong said during the meeting. He explained the district bid both ramps but will do one now because of cost; the second ramp may be bid in a later year.
A motion to award the bid was made and seconded; the chair called for a voice vote and the motion carried.
Board members asked clarifying questions about location and whether ramps were required by ADA guidelines. Armstrong said the district investigated alternatives but found replacement to be the most cost-effective solution. No changes to project scope or contingencies were recorded in the meeting minutes; the board approved the single-ramp contract award and moved on to subsequent business.
The award authorizes the administration to proceed with contract execution and construction for the north ramp at Sharon Elementary; the board did not set an expected completion date at the meeting.
