Resident urges Sammamish to set housing targets, proposes adding 7,100 units over 20 years

Stigny described four locally relevant housing categories and said Sammamish faces shortages in affordable housing, mid-price market housing and condominiums and townhomes. He said his analysis calls for adding about 5,000 market-rate units and 2,100 affordable units over 20 years. "If those were met over 20 years, that would meet about 70% of the lowest threshold of need in those categories," Stigny said. He added that most new units should be concentrated in centers rather than neighborhoods to preserve residential character.
Stigny urged the council to use accurate data, quantify needs and set legislative targets in the comprehensive plan if the community supports them. He emphasized balancing growth for transit and compact development in centers while preserving the character of most of the city.
