Socorro ISD honors more than 100 students for state, district and national awards

At a special meeting May 12, 2025, the Socorro Independent School District Board of Trustees recognized more than 100 students for academic, artistic and athletic achievements, including Visual Arts Scholastic Event winners, UIL district championships and a robotics team that qualified for the FIRST Robotics World Championship.
Daniel Escobar, Chief Communications Officer for Socorro ISD, opened the recognitions and said, “it is my pleasure to introduce tonight's recognitions.” Escobar listed winners from middle and high schools across the district and summarized the scope of the honors.
The board honored middle- and high-school visual-arts winners from multiple campuses, naming students from Herschel Antoine Middle School, John Druegan School, Montwood High School, Pebble Hills High School, Eastlake High School, Socorro High School, El Dorado High School and others. Escobar noted that the Visual Arts Scholastic Event entries earned platinum and state-level distinctions.
Athletic recognitions included Americas High School’s boys golf team, which won the 2025 UIL 2-5A district championship, and multiple track teams. Escobar named individual and team athletes from Americas and El Dorado high schools who placed at the UIL state meet and recorded school-best times and medals.
Career and technical student organizations (CTSOs) also were recognized. Escobar said, “Over 100 SISD students achieved top positions at both the state and national levels,” and then listed winning students from programs including Business Professionals of America (BPA), Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE), Technology Student Association (TSA), SkillsUSA and Future Farmers of America (FFA). He also highlighted an El Dorado architecture team that placed in state and national design competitions.
Montwood High School’s robotics teams were recognized after qualifying for the FIRST Robotics Competition World Championship following the Tech Challenge state contest. Several students from Montwood were named during the recognition.
Escobar told attendees that portrait photographs taken by the district photographer, Mr. Largo, are posted on the district website for free high-resolution download. The meeting record shows no public-comment speakers were signed up; the board convened at 6 p.m. and adjourned at 6:37 p.m.
No motions, votes or policy actions were recorded during the recognition portion of the meeting; the event's purpose was to acknowledge student accomplishments.
The board’s recognitions highlighted a range of extracurricular programs and competitive activities across Socorro ISD campuses, underscoring recent district successes in arts, athletics, career-technical education and robotics.
