Dave Robertson, chief public affairs officer for the Port of Portland, asked the committee for funding to support container operations at Terminal 6 and for channel‑maintenance dredging on the Lower Columbia River.
Robertson said Business Oregon’s proposed packages would include $20,200,000 to support capital needs at Terminal 6 and $15,160,000 toward dredging costs. He framed the investments as critical to Oregon’s economy, citing more than 1,500 jobs tied to container operations at Terminal 6 and tens of thousands of regional jobs that rely on a deep, navigable Columbia River.
“Providing funding for Terminal 6 will provide certainty,” Robertson said, adding that the port’s work benefits farms, manufacturers, and service industries across the state.
No formal appropriation was taken during the hearing; Robertson’s testimony was part of the record for SB 5531.
