The House Committee on Labor and Workplace Standards voted Monday to advance Senate Bill 1108A to the floor with a due-pass recommendation, a measure that would allow employees to use earned statutory sick time for certain blood donations.
Erin, committee staff, said the measure permits employees to use earned statutory sick time for blood donation made in connection with a voluntary program approved or accredited by the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) or the American Red Cross. The staff report noted a minimal fiscal impact and no revenue impact; the Senate reported 28 ayes in its earlier action.
Vice Chair Munoz moved the bill to the floor with a due-pass recommendation; Desi called the roll and the chair announced the motion adopted. Representative Fraglia and Representative Nelson were recorded as voting yes; Vice Chair Elmer and other members recorded votes consistent with adoption, and the committee named a carrier for the bill during the session.
The work session record shows the committee took no public testimony and did not record substantive amendments. The bill would allow employees covered by earned statutory sick-time provisions to use that leave for blood donation when the donation is part of programs accredited by the AABB or the American Red Cross.
