Committee advances bill limiting crematory operating temperatures to floor with due pass recommendation

The Senate Energy and Environment Committee on May 12 moved House Bill 3729 to the floor with a due-pass recommendation. Committee staff summarized the bill as prohibiting the Department of Environmental Quality, the Environmental Quality Commission or a regional air quality authority from requiring a crematory incinerator to operate at temperatures greater than 1,600 degrees Fahrenheit. Staff reported a minimal fiscal and no revenue impact.
Vice Chair Brock Smith moved the motion to advance the bill; the committee carried it by voice vote. The committee did not take additional amendments during the brief work session.
